It’s the holiday season. Over the past few years, that’s meant only one thing here in the DC area. It’s time for Maryland to suffer a home non-conference upset.
William & Mary Is Gary Williams’ 2009 Holiday Headache
↵Last season, it was Morgan State who did the damage en route to their first ever NCAA bid (granted the game was on January 7). In 2007-08, it happened twice, first against Ohio on December 12, then against American -- another team who’d make their Tourney bow in March -- ten days later. This time around, it was Colonial Athletic Association contender William & Mary, who played good ball on the perimeter and limited their mistakes to earn an 83-77 win, thanks to 28 points from Quinn McDowell and 17 from Danny Summer.
↵The Tribe lost their first two of the season, dropping games at tenth-ranked UConn and Ivy contender Harvard. They seem to have gotten it together since then, so it’s time to put Bill & Mary in the back of your mind for March.
↵As for Maryland, I’m sure local radio will be buzzing about Gary Williams’ job status and relationship (or lack thereof) with athletic director Debbie Yow in 3, 2, 1...
