December 30, 2009 - Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Edgar Sosa scored a game-high 16 points, as the Louisville Cardinals opened their Big East Conference schedule with a 73-52 win over the South Florida Bulls at Freedom Hall.

Jared Swopshire and Samardo Samuels scored 12 points apiece for the Cardinals (10-3, 1-0 Big East), who have won five in a row to close out their eight-game homestand.

USF (10-3, 0-1) saw its win streak snapped at three games, despite double- doubles from both Toarlyn Fitzpatrick (11 points, 11 rebounds) and Jarrid Famous (12 pts, 10 reb).

Louisville jumped out to a 26-15 lead on a three-point play by Sosa at the seven-minute mark of opening half. However, USF would later close out the half with a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 32-31 at intermission.

But the Bulls went ice-cold in the second stanza, shooting only 6-of-19 from the floor as Louisville pulled ahead comfortably.

The Bulls played sloppy throughout the contest, as they managed only seven assists and had 21 turnovers as a team.
