Illinois 89, No. 25 Northwestern 83 (OT): Illini Snaps Wildcats’ Nine-Game Win Streak

December 30, 2009 - Champaign, IL (Sports Network) - Mike Tisdale scored a career-high 31 points on 11-of-14 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds before fouling out in overtime, as Illinois edged 25th-ranked Northwestern, 89-83, in the Big Ten opener for both clubs at Assembly Hall.

Mike Davis also recorded a double-double with 20 points and game-high 17 boards for the Fighting Illini (9-4, 1-0 Big Ten), who snapped its second two- game losing streak of the season.

D.J. Richardson finished with 12 points, five rebounds and five assists for Illinois, which rallied from a 42-33 deficit at halftime.

John Shurna had 27 points, seven boards and dished out four assists for the Wildcats (10-2, 0-1), who were vying for their first 10-game win streak since the 1930-31 squad started with 14 straight victories.

Jeremy Nash scored 16 points for Northwestern, while Drew Crawford and Alex Marcotullio both added 13 points in defeat.
