UPDATE: Mike Leach has been fired today by Texas Tech.

↵OK, we’ve all had a little fun with this whole “Mike Leach kept a player in a closet” story. (Specifically here and here.) Video is finally available (via Dr. Saturday) of the “shed” and “closet” in question. It’s not exactly a tiny solitary confinement cell.↵

Video Surfaces of Alleged ‘Sheds’ and ‘Closets’ at Texas Tech

↵As Matt Hinton points out over on Dr. Saturday, what isn’t explained is why he was brought into these rooms. If it was simply a matter of getting James out of the sun, why wouldn’t you just send him to an office. I find the whole thing about keeping the player as close as possible to be less-than-plausible, if only because you’d figure a lot more could be achieved, in say, a film room, than in a garage that holds tackling dummies.↵↵Hopefully we’ll know more about Leach’s future after today’s hearing. I can’t help but think he’s in some trouble given that he’s reportedly due an $800K bonus on Dec. 31 if in “good standing.” It might be a bit of serendipity in the accounting department and James’ allegations could prove to be little more than an excuse, as SN’s Dave Curtis suggested.↵
