UCLA 72, Arizona State 70: Bruins Hold On For Win
December 31, 2009 - Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Nikola Dragovic connected on 6-of-8 three- point attempts and finished with 23 points, as the UCLA Bruins narrowly defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils, 72-70, in a Pac-10 tilt at Pauley Pavilion.
Malcolm Lee added 16 points for UCLA (6-7, 1-0 Pac10), while Michael Roll tallied 12 points. Jerime Anderson contributed 10 points, to go along with six rebounds and six assists in the win.
Rihards Kuksiks netted 15 points for Arizona State (10-4, 0-1), while Ty Abbott and Derek Glasser added 12 points apiece in the loss.
The Bruins went into the break with a 42-31 advantage after shooting an amazing 83.3 percent from the floor in the opening half.
In the second stanza however, the Sun Devils made the contest close, but the Bruins were able to hold on for the two-point win thanks to a 13-of-19 clip from the foul line.
The Bruins made 11-of-17 attempts from behind the arc, while Arizona State connected on just 9-of-24 shots from long range.
