USC 56, Arizona 50: Seven In A Row For The Trojans
December 31, 2009 - Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Marcus Johnson and Dwight Lewis both scored 14 points to help lead the USC Trojans to a 56-50 win over the Arizona Wildcats in the Pac-10 Conference opener for both programs at the Galen Center.
Also having a strong game for the Trojans (9-4, 1-0 Pac-10), as they won their seventh in a row, was Nikola Vucevic with eight points, a game-high 10 rebounds and four blocked shots in the home victory.
The Wildcats (6-7, 0-1) were paced by Derrick Williams who tallied a game-high 15 points and collected eight rebounds, while Jamelle Horne tacked on 13 points in the team’s second straight loss.
Arizona made a total of just seven field goals in the first half, and even though the Trojans failed to sink a single three-point try the home team still held a 28-21 lead at the break.
In the second half the Wildcats again had a tough time shooting the ball from the floor (8-of-24) as USC captured the six-point decision.
The Trojans managed to pick up the win despite shooting only 1-of-9 behind the three-point line.
