2009 World MMA Awards Results - Featuring A Drunken Diego Sanchez Video

Wednesday night was the broadcast of the 2009 World MMA Awards on Versus. The complete list of winners:

Coach of the Year: Greg Jackson

Female Fighter of the Year: Cris “Cyborg” Santos
Leading Man of the Year: Dana White
Best MMA shorts: Tapout
Submission of the Year: Toby Imada

Ring Girl of the Year: Arianny Celeste
European Fighter of the Year: Gegard Mousasi
Fight of the Year: Diego Sanchez vs. Clay Guida

The broadcast was just brutally bad but it did have one crowning moment. I’ll let SB Nation’s Watch Kalib Run set the scene:

The broadcast was unbearable drawing comparisons to the Razzies or the AVN’s. The host, John Heffron, was far from funny and even his supporters turned on him by the end of the broadcast (not like we didn’t see that coming). But that doesn’t mean The World MMA Awards were a complete bust.

Diego Sanchez’s drunken acceptance speech came in to save the day.
