Semmy Schilt capped off an emotional few weeks by destroying the field at the K-1 Grand Prix. From SB Nation’s kickboxing blog Head Kick Legend:
Semmy Schilt Wins K-1 Grand Prix
Semmy Schilt has captured his fourth World Grand Prix Championship, defeating his three opponents by knockout tonight. First was Jerome LeBanner who was grounded by two kicks to the midsection. Then he knocked Remy Bonjasky loopy. Finally, he followed up playing the waiting game against an amped up Badr Hari.
Last month Schilt’s training partner Vitali MItu passed away following a sparring session with Semmy. It was ruled to not be a result of blows taken during the session but it still had to be hard on Sem. Following the final victory Schilt dedicated the tournament win to Mitu’s memory.
The three tournament victories happened in a combined 5:52, making it the quickest K-1 grand prix win ever.
