Danica Patrick To Try NASCAR In 2010

As if NASCAR needed a boost in profile. The most popular of all the motorsports -- at least where the U.S. audience is concerned -- just got it all the same, as the Associated Press is reporting that Danica Patrick will try her hand at NASCAR in 2010.

↵Before you get too excited, there are a couple of caveats. One, Patrick isn’t becoming a full-time NASCAR driver; her commitment is just for a partial Nationwide Series schedule (the Nationwide Series is NASCAR’s second tier). Second, Patrick just signed a three-year deal with Andretti Autosport, meaning it would be at least three years until she could switch to NASCAR full-time.

↵Still, though, if Patrick can draw a national audience and an unprecedented level of individual attention to the Indy 500, there’s no doubt the Nationwide Series will feel a similar boost. Gentleman, start your ... OK, sorry, not gonna finish that. Just get excited. That’ll do.
