76ers Drop 11th Straight Game
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Rodney Stuckey scored 10 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and hit the go-ahead basket with 8.7 seconds left in regulation, as the Pistons handed the Philadelphia 76ers their 11th straight defeat, 90-86.
Stuckey also had eight assists, while Jonas Jerebko donated 17 points and 10 rebounds for Detroit, which has won four of five and snapped a five-game skid on the road.
Jason Maxiell added 12 points, while Kwame Brown and Charlie Villanueva each scored 11 for the victors.
Andre Iguodala logged 18 points, nine helpers and six boards but missed a potential go-ahead three-pointer in the waning seconds for the Sixers, who at 5-17 own the second worst winning percentage (.227) in the Eastern Conference.
Allen Iverson, in his second game back in Philadelphia, ended with 11 points, while Elton Brand and Samuel Dalembert each had 17 points in another losing cause.
There were four ties and five lead changes in the final 12 minutes.
Chucky Atkins broke an 84-84 tie by making two free throws with 1:20 left. Iverson tied it with a mid-range jumper from the left wing, and a shot clock violation gave the Sixers the ball back with 40 seconds left.
Iguodala failed to get his contested runner to fall, and Dalembert’s tip-in fell short as well. Stuckey got tied up by Iguodala at the other end but managed to pick up a loose ball and hit a fadeaway shot with 8.7 seconds remaining.
Iguodala had a chance for the lead, but his wide open three-point try from the right wing hit off the back of the rim, and Detroit held on.
An offense-starved first quarter ended with the Pistons holding an 18-16 lead, and by halftime it was tied at 42.
An 8-0 Detroit run midway through the third helped the visitors take a 67-63 lead into the a tight fourth quarter.
Philadelphia will finish up its five-game homestand against Houston, Golden State and Cleveland...Sixers rookie guard Jrue Holiday missed his third straight game due to a strained right rotator cuff...Pistons guard Ben Gordon sat out due to a sprained left ankle...The Pistons next play on Thursday against Denver at the Palace of Auburn Hills...Dalembert also had 11 rebounds, while Ben Wallace finished with a game-high 12 rebounds for the Pistons, who won the battle on the glass, 45-32.
