Hair-Pulling Doesn’t Win Over NHL Fight Fans

As I noted earlier today at FanHouse, March is my least favorite month of the NHL season. Then again, the month’s final weekend proved to be awfully active when it came to exciting on-ice fisticuffs, never more so than Sunday night in Chicago when a scrum in front of the Vancouver net turned into an old-fashioned line brawl between the Canucks and Blackhawks, complete with some hair-pulling: ↵

But as exciting as that furball might have been, the readers at Hockeyfights.com didn’t even think it was the best fight of the weekend. That honor went to a tilt on Saturday night on Long Island, when notorious NHL bad boy Riley Cote of the Flyers decided it was time to test the mettle of recent minor league call-up Joel Rechlicz:↵

↵↵It might not seem like much, but being able to stand skate-to-skate with Cote and get the better of him is the sort of thing that might help the 21-year-old Milwaukee native gain himself a permanent spot on the Islanders roster next season.↵
