SB Nation Writers Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick #45
After selecting a wide receiver in the first round, EtVal from Big Blue View continues to target talent on offense.
Many folks think the Giants have the best offensive line in football. While it's true that their starting unit is excellent, in reality there is very little depth behind the first group. The other reality is that, despite doing a good job at left tackle, David Diehl is a Pro Bowl caliber guard playing out of position.
That is why I was excited to find William Beatty still available with the 45th pick. He is a guy I have seen sneak into the first round in some mock drafts, and the consensus seems to be that Beatty has all the tools to be a quality left tackle in the NFL. If that’s the case, and Beatty can take over that spot within a couple of seasons and allow Diehl to go back inside, the Giants line could get even better. At the very least, they need some quality depth at the tackle slots. Beatty, I think, is a guy they Giants will have a tough time passing on if he is there in the second round.
MTD thoughts: This is a pick that not a lot of Giants fans may like. However, the idea of being able to move Diehl back to guard makes it a smart pick.
