Team-by-team day two thoughts on the AFC draft picks

• The Jets only had two picks today. In Shonn Greene they have a good short-yardage back. In Matthew Slauson they have a backup guard. Where the Jets really needed to target, and could have, is wide receiver.
• Even with the questionable selection of Nic Harris in round five, the Bills continued their stellar draft. The team got another likely starter in Shawn Nelson and acquired a big cornerback in Cary Harris.
• If it were anyone else other than Bill Parcells, I’d really question Miami’s picks. None of their second-day players look like starters. Patrick Turner was a huge reach.

• An opinion about New England’s draft will be determined next year after the team acquired three second-round picks. The team also scored with Brandon Tate at wide receiver. Rich Ohrnberger could be developed into something decent. The rest of the picks seem like training camp fodder.
• Baltimore continued its very good draft. In cornerback Lardarius Webb, inside linebacker Jason Phillips and running back Cedric Peerman, the team got great scheme fits.
• No team may have added as many starters in this draft than Cincinnati. The team started the day with a great value in end Michael Johnson. Chase Coffman was also a steal. Jonathan Luigs could start at center from day one as should punter Kevin Huber.
• Cleveland continued to puzzle with its picks. The team targeted two cornerbacks, so the team has to be hoping one turns out well. Kaluka Maiava seems like a special teams player, and not really a 3-4 fit. James Davis was a sound choice.
• The Steelers quietly put together a good second day with a potential starter at guard in Kraig Urbik and two quality cornerbacks in Keenan Lewis and Joe Burnett.
• Other than Antoine Caldwell at center and a multi-tool player in James Casey, Houston’s second day is less than stellar.
• Indianapolis hit with Austin Collie in round four. Other than that, Terrance Taylor at defensive tackle, cornerback Jerraud Powers and quarterback Curtis Painter are just decent selections.
• After a successful day one, the Jaguars reached to take Terrance Knighton, Derek Cox and Zach Miller. The picks of Mike Thomas and Jarrett Dillard seem solid, however.
• Tennessee had one of the best day twos in the whole league. Tight end Jared Cook and inside linebacker Gerald McRath are athletic and have tons of upside. Troy Kropog could eventually start on the offensive line and Ryan Mouton gives them some size at cornerback.
• There’s not a lot to be impressed by with Denver’s second day. Perhaps Tom Brandstater could develop into a decent quarterback, but David Bruton wsa a bit of a reach in round four.
• After just one pick on day one, the Chiefs needed to hit on day two. I’m not sure they did. Alex Magee is a rotational guy. Donald Washington is little more than an athlete. The other picks aren’t very noteworthy.
• Stryker Sulak was a great value pick for the Raiders. Louis Murphy is a decent pick. The rest was pretty awful. Matt Shaughnessy is average. Slade Norris seemed like an undrafted free agent guy.
• Following the questionable selection of Louis Vasquez in the third round, San Diego ended up with an above-average second day. Tyronne Green is probably better than Vasquez. Gartrell Johnson could be good for a few carries. Brandon Hughes has starter talent at cornerback.
