Note: This information is, as of right now, completely unconfirmed by me. I’m waiting to hear back from some folks, but we’ll see.
BREAKING: Prospects allegedly tested positive at Combine
NFLDraftBible.com reports that Southern California linebackers Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews III tested positive for steroids at the NFL Scouting Combine in March.
The site is also reporting that B.J. Raji of Boston College, Vontae Davis of Illinois, Percy Harvin of Florida and Jose Martinez of UTEP tested positive for marijuana at the combine.
More on these accusations as they develop today.
UPDATE: Not much of an update on the actual status of this news. Someone in the comments asked how much this would hurt the players.
This probably won’t affect the guys who allegedly tested positive for marijuana at all. For Matthews and Cushing, I’m not exactly sure. The last time something of this nature took place, it was Luis Castillo, who was coming off a back injury at Northwestern.
It didn’t really affect Castillo’s stock much. He still went in the first round, at pick 28.
How it will affect these two will greatly depend on how they react to it. If they did in fact test positive for steroids, it would behoove them to do like Castillo and send a letter to each team explaining and apologizing for it.
UPDATE 2: Southern California coach Pete Carroll has shot down what now can be called a rumor:
“These rumors are absolutely false,” said Carroll, adding that the NFL testing service informed him that both players didn’t test positive. “If they were found positive, Clay and Cush would have been notified three weeks ago, which they weren’t, and all of the NFL teams would have been notified too, which they weren’t.
“They’re both men of outstanding character and they never tested positive for anything here. This is an [sic] major example of irresponsible reporting, and the site that published this report should be ashamed of themselves.”
