Mayweather Accused of Threats in Vegas Shooting

Last night, it was widely reported that boxer Floyd Mayweather’s Rolls Royce was searched after being spotted near a shooting outside the Crystal Palace Skating Center. The fighter himself was not a suspect in the shooting, although police were seeking a “known associate” of Mayweather who goes by the name “O.C.” Mayweather was said to be cooperating in the investigation.↵↵But today, the apparent target of the shooting, a 24-year-old man named Quincey Williams, told The Las Vegas Review-Journal that Mayweather himself threatened him personally less than hour before the shooting occurred. ↵

↵↵Williams claims that he and Mayweather had words over a text message he sent to Floyd months ago in which he wrote that he hoped the fighter would lose in his upcoming bout with Juan Manuel Marquez. When asked how Mayweather had threatened him, Williams said the fighter had told him that he had enough money to have Williams “hit,” which he took as a threat to his life. According to Williams, his BMW was fired upon between 30 and 45 minutes after that threat was issued. ↵

↵↵In the Review-Journal article, Williams was critical of the police investigation, claiming that they should have arrested Floyd immediately rather than merely search his car. When told they were seeking “O.C.”, Williams said, “Floyd knows who he is. He works for Floyd.”↵

↵

↵Mayweather’s promotional team can’t be thrilled with this development, as the incident occurred on the very same day that they sought to dominate the headlines with the announcement that Floyd’s fight with Marquez on September 19 would be shown in movie theaters across the country. ↵

↵↵The skating-rink shooting is yet another case of criminal mayhem clouding the Mayweather camp as Floyd heads towards the Marquez bout. Just two weeks ago, Floyd’s uncle and trainer, Roger Mayweather, was taken into custody by police after an ugly incident in which he was discovered choking a female boxer at a Las Vegas condominium that he owned. ↵

↵↵At least on the Mayweather side of things, it looks like HBO’s upcoming Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 series, which premieres this Saturday night, is going to feel like a long episode of America’s Most Wanted. ↵
