It’s a long way until the magic of 2007’s Rocktober, but the 2009 Rockies are brewing a little magic of their own:
Rockies Extends N.L. Wild Card Lead With Dramatic Win
Seth Smith and the Rockies extended their magic Wednesday night.Smith, the reigning National League Player of the Week, dribbled a two-run, bases-loaded single off the glove of Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips to give the NL Wild Card-leading Rockies their sixth straight victory and eighth in nine games, 4-3, at Coors Field before 23,721.
Reds closer Francisco Cordero (2-5) gave up a one-out Clint Barmes double and walked pinch-hitters Jason Giambi and Ryan Spilborghs. Carlos Gonzalez struck out, but Smith, who hit .542 last week, hit the hard grounder that Phillips could not handle.
With the Giants crushing the souls of their fans earlier in the day, Colorado now holds a four game lead in the Wild Card race.
