Unsurprisingly, the Vikings’ abrupt release of wide receiver Bobby Wade did not go over well in the locker room. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports:
Vikings Players Upset
Bernard Berrian walked into the Vikings locker room Thursday morning wearing Bobby Wade’s practice jersey. Asked if that was his show of support for the veteran wide receiver, Berrian said, “Always. Definitely is.“The Vikings’ decision to cut Wade was met with surprise, disappointment and some anger inside the locker room.
Presumably, Vikings head coach Brad Childress felt more comfortable with former Eagle Greg Lewis, who the Vikings brought in to replace Wade and who Childress had worked with before back in his days as Philadelphia’s offensive coordinator. Still, cutting a productive, popular player who willingly took a pay cut is cold even by the NFL’s standards.
