UEFA Repeals Eduardo’s Diving Ban

A few weeks ago, Arsenal winger Eduardo was banned by UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations for the noobs in the house) for diving and winning a penalty in the closing minutes of a match against Celtic. Most soccer fans were happy: finally, some punishment for diving!

↵

Not so fast: Arsenal appealed the ruling, and today UEFA canceled the ban, deciding that taking such a brazen leap into actually making sure players don’t cheat was a bad idea. Which, sarcasm aside, it was. Something needs to be done about diving — I’m looking at you, EVERYONE ON ITALY’S NATIONAL TEAM — but it needs to be organized, uniform, and simplistic. There will be better chances for that.
