The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that the contract is five years and worth $18.75 million. Vermette is now signed through the 2014-2015 season.
Vermette was acquired by the Blue Jackets from the Ottawa Senators at the trade deadline last season. He fit in well with the Blue Jackets and he likes the direction the franchise is headed.
Vermette: "With Nash resigning, it definitely makes it a lot more attractive to stick around... It's very exciting to be a part of this." [...]

Vermette is expected to be a key contributor for a Blue Jackets team that made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history in 2009.
Vermette Extension Worth $18.75 Million
The Columbus Dispatch is reporting the extension is worth $18.75 million and will pay him through the 2014-2015 season. Vermette would have been a unrestricted free agent at the end of the season if the Blue Jackets did not sign him before July 1. Vermette and Nash will now be in Columbus long term.
