Oakland Athletics One-Hit Texas Rangers

The Oakland A’s have played quite the spoiler role lately. As a matter of fact, some would refer to them as the Spoiler Express.

But nothing was quite the punch in the guy that a one-hit shutout against the Texas Rangers in Arlington, Texas. And for Ranger fans, it would appear that Trevor Cahill's masterpiece (combined with Michael Wuertz and Andrew Bailey) was the final nail in the coffin, the team going out on a whimper. Texas is now six back in the West and 6.5 behind the Red Sox in the Wild Card.

The young Oakland team went 6-2 on their recent eight game road trip against teams that are fighting for their playoff lives, like the Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox and most recently, the Texas Rangers. Don't be surprised if the Oakland A's wind up playing a much better role in 2010 than spoiler. But for now, the one-hit shutout of a team in that crazy hitter's park in Arlington is quite an accomplishment.
