Manchester United and Manchester City clash in the ‘Manchester Derby’ Sunday. It is certainly the match of the week, but there are nine other matches happening this weekend as well. Be sure to check back as we cover the action.
Early Scores: Arsenal Bounces Back, Vermaelen Scores Two
Thomas Vermaelen scored twice for the Gunners, as Arsenal rebounded today from last weekend’s loss to Manchester City with a decisive 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic--which just sounds like a perfect candidate for relegation, no? In a game where the Gunners had plenty of chances, it appears the outcome was never in doubt, and the only question was how severe the beating would be. In the end, the two goals from Vermaelen were augmented by Emmanuel Eboue, and a late goal from superstar Cesc Fabregas.
Elsewhere, Burnley topped Sunderland 3-1, with two goals from David Nugent. Hull City suffered an 0-1 defeat at the hands of Birmingham, and Bolton played to a 1-1 tie with Stoke City.
