For the first time since 2006, the Braves have pieced together a seven-game winning streak. Their bats have finally started to catch up with their arms, as they’ve averaged over six runs per game over the past seven games.
Braves Catching Fire, and it Might Not Be Too Late
Earlier this month, just about everyone declared them all but mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, and their postseason chances are still slim (ESPN gives them a 7.4% chance). They trail the Rockies in the wild card race by 4.5 games entering Friday night’s game, and since Colorado is playing the majority of its remaining games at home, where they’re 45-27 this season, the Braves will have to win every single game they possibly can.
Another possibility: the Braves trail the NL East-leading Phillies by 7.5 games, and the two teams kick off a three-game series in Atlanta on Friday. A sweep (hey, if you can win seven straight, what’s three more?) would suddenly make the division race a contest again.
