Jake Peavy Optimistic Over Possibility of Pitching Again This Season

Starter Jake Peavy, who was traded to the White Sox on July 31 but hasn’t played since June 13, threw a bullpen session today and says he hopes to make it back on the mound in 2009.

After pulling the trigger on trading both Jim Thome and Jose Contreras, it looks like the White Sox may be waving the white flag by shutting down Jake Peavy before he even makes his debut for the ChiSox:

The White Sox sit 6.5 games back from the Tigers in the A.L. Central race. While it seems the Red Sox, Rangers and Rays are battling for the Wild Card, Chicago would have to make up a lot of ground to earn a spot in the playoffs.
