In Case You Were Wondering, Kenny Chesney Hasn’t Gone Anywhere

For years, our football games have been presented with some sort of musical introduction, asking us if we’re “ready for some football“ or telling us we’ve been ”waiting all day” for the big game to start. They’re cute, fun and usually inoffensive. ↵↵That is, until this season, when ESPN decided to hire both Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews Band to introduce games, shows and everything you can think of that’s college football related on ABC and/or ESPN. Some football writers were not so excited about those decisions. ↵

↵↵The first weekend of the season it was all Chesney all the time. After six or seven hours of football, if you weren’t humming, “this is our moment, this is our time” while banging your head against the hardest and possibly sharpest thing in arm’s reach, then dang it you aren’t American. Take a listen:↵

↵But just like that, Chesney was nowhere to be found. Rather than rejoice, Matt Hinton at Dr. Saturday has chalked it up to a Chesney conspiracy. Per Hinton, maybe ESPN killed Kenny, if you will:↵↵⇥Today is a crucial day for Chesney. No sign of KC in two weeks. If it’s absent today, ready to declare it dead? ↵↵↵No such luck, we learned. Per ESPN spokesman Michael Humes:↵

↵↵⇥The song has always been intended to be used on opening weekend, very big games and the last day of the regular season. Dave Matthews Band is the official band of college football on ESPN. I am not aware of any backlash, I heard positives about the song.↵↵↵We clearly travel in different social networking circles. Either way, Chesney isn’t gone, they’re saving him for the big games – you know, the games where ‘we ain’t holding back, we’re laying it on the line.” Those games. Can’t wait for those games. ↵
