The first round of the Tour Championship is finished, and Sean O’Hair is the man to beat. But he hasn’t exactly opened a wide gulf between himself and the rest of the field.
After First Round, Sean O’Hair Emerges Ahead of Pack
O’Hair opened the tournament with a 4-under 66, while Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink, Padraig Harrington and U.S. Open champ Lucas Glover are all one stroke back at -3.
Leading after the first round, with Tiger tied at second, O’Hair would end the week with a projected 3,700 points, 117 more than Woods if nothing changed. Obviously with three days left, this is highly unlikely, but it’s the playoff format that makes this final tournament all the more interesting.
What’s even more interesting? The $11.35 million O’Hair would claim with a win and the FedEx Cup would be nearly as much as he’s made his entire career on the PGA Tour ($11.68 million), a point to be made at how much this tournament does mean financially.
Coincidentally, that $11.35 million would be almost as much as I’ve made in my blogging career to this point. Wild, right?
