The Coaches Poll itself is an absurd notion. You take the one group of guys most likely to NOT be watching college football games on Saturday, because they’re coaching actual ones, and then ask them to rank every team fairly based on what they “saw.” It should be no surprise then that the Coaches Poll continues to bring us completely asinine results like the ones we saw this week. Including…
Coaches Should Stick To Coaching, Not Polling
—LSU at 4 despite a shaky performance versus Miss. State and a lack of quality wins on the schedule.
—Oklahoma at 8 despite a loss to BYU
—Penn State (13) over Iowa (17), the team who abused them in a 21-10 loss Saturday night on national tv.
—Oklahoma State over Houston, who has two wins over ranked teams, no losses, and a win over…yeah, Oklahoma State.
—Cal over Oregon, the team who beat them 42-3 this past weekend.
It’s actually quite humorous until you realize the results of the Coaches Poll determine 30% of the BCS formula. And you thought this process couldn’t be any dumber…
