Steve Zipay of Newsday.com reported recently tht the Rangers will keeping former first round draft Michael Del Zotto to start the season.
Del Zotto Makes Rangers
After training camp, a prospects tournament and preseason schedule in which Del Zotto excelled, coach John Tortorella said yesterday: “He’s going to start here with us. Right now, he has made the club, it has nothing to do with minors or juniors. We’re not looking at age . . . His strength is obviously offense, but he’s shown he’s really willing to compete away from the puck and in his end zone.
The 19 year old scored 13 goals and 63 points in 62 games played last year, during a season split between the Oshawa Generals and London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. The Rangers will have 9 games to decide whether to keep Del Zotto in the NHL or not - if he plays 10 games, the first year of his entry level deal will be triggered.
