There were plenty of empty seats during Game 1 of yesterday’s Twins-Tigers doubleheader in Detroit. This is understandable — it was a make-up of the previous night’s rain-out, so obviously many fans were unable to make it to a Noon game.
Columnist Sick of Hearing How Little Money You Have, Tigers Fans
↵For Game 2, there was an announced crowd of 35,243, which is 85% of capacity. The season average for Comerica Park is 31,396, or about 78% full. Decent turn out, all things considered (things such as, you know, “the economy” and “highest unemployment rate in the country”).
↵
But this just wasn’t good enough for Detroit Free Press columnist Drew Sharp, who is AGHAST that 5,000 more fans couldn’t fork over the money to watch the game in person:
↵↵It’s inexcusable they’re not getting 40,000 a night considering the heightened drama. The economy excuse has grown some graying whiskers. It’s less about how little money people have in their pockets but how little faith they have in this team.
↵↵Oh, woe is me, I need to spend my money on food and housing. Yawn. Spare us. If you don’t plan on going to tonight’s game, you really better come up with something better than “I’m broke,” because we’re sick and tired of hearing about it.
