Each of the final seven games of Matchday Two have reached full time and the Group standings are beginning to take shape. There was some late drama in a few of the games and some sloppy play in a few others. In what was the premier match up of the day, Bayern Munich and Juventus played to a 0-0 draw. Munich controlled much of the match, but only managed two shots on target (too match Juventus) and could not get a goal past the keeper. A win would have put Munich in the Group A driver’s seat, but their draw coupled with a Bordeaux victory over Maccabi Haifa, leaves Munich and Bordeaux tied at the top.

In Group B action, after CSKA Moscow’s win over Besiktas earlier in the day, Manchester United took control of the group with a 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg. United now have six points while Wolfsburg and Moscow both have three.
Real Madrid was able to take control of Group C with a commanding 3-0 win over Marseille. Souleymane Diawara was sent off after his second yellow card of the day and Kaka was able to convert the ensuing penalty kick which gave Madrid the commanding 2-0 lead that they would add to just minutes later. Marseille has an uphill climb as they are now alone in fourth place in the group after Zurich was able to hold on to their early 1-0 lead over AC Milan to surprise the Italian club at home. It’s not called the Champions League for nothing Milan.
Chelsea also sits atop their group with six points after beating APOEL FC 1-0. The Blues got an early goal and then held the Cyprus club to just one shot on goal to pick up the three points. Chelsea is trailed in Group D by FC Porto who was able to knock of Atletico 2-0 behind the strength of two late goals.
The Group Stage is now a third of the way complete and the races have become more interesting as the next games approach. Matchday Three kicks-off October 20th.
