The Red Sox flame-throwing closer, Jonathan Papelbon, apparently isn’t fast enough. ‘Cinco Ocho’ was fined for the seventh time this season for his slow play, to the tune of $5,000. This latest incident came Tuesday night against Tampa Bay when he was late getting to the mound.
Papelbon Throws Fast, Pitches Slow
↵“Game pace, pace of game, or something like that. I don’t know why they keep coming after me. It’s probably because I’m not doing what I’m supposed to be doing. I’m not obeying the rules. I’m taking too long getting to the rubber. You’re allowed 2:25 and I’m taking too long.”↵Papelbon says he’s been fined over $10,000 this season, but he’s not too clear on the number of infractions: “I think it’s the fifth or seventh,” he said. “One of the two.”
