Fightin’ Words! Tiger Woods Says Marginally Insulting Words About Ernie Els

Remember a few years ago when we had the Big Four of golf? Ernie Els was one of them. Today, not so much. Tiger Woods implies that this is because Els didn’t work hard enough to recover from knee surgery in ‘05 -- almost the identical surgery Woods underwent earlier this year:

“Ernie is not a big worker physically and that’s one of the things you have to do with an ACL injury,” said Woods.

“I feel pretty good with what I’ve done and I think Ernie could have worked a little bit harder,” the American said on the eve of the Deutsche Bank Championship, the second tournament of the PGA Tour’s four-event FedEx Cup playoff series.

Roasted.

This is perhaps much ado about nothing, but Tiger is always guarded with his words. Seems like either what he said was misinterpreted, or perhaps there was some intent to send Ernie a message here. Either way, we can’t let this spat get in the way of enjoying the FedEx Championship Cup Golf Playoff Thingee.
