Yankees’ pitcher Phil Hughes is “finally living up to the expectations that made him a first round draft pick” according to Pete Abraham from LoHud.com.
Yankees’ Phil Hughes Hitting Stride in Relief Role
The Yankees called up Hughes in April to replace an injured Chien-Ming Wang. He made seven starts before Wang was deemed ready to return. But rather than return Hughes to the minors, the Yankees added him to a bullpen that was the team's biggest weakness.
Hughes has appeared in 32 games since, allowing only 22 hits over 40 innings and striking out 54. His ERA of 1.11 is the lowest of any American League reliever with at least 40 innings.
