The confusing UFC middleweight picture is made even worse by the revelation that Dan Henderson is not under contract and is holding out on re-signing until he is guaranteed a fight with champion Anderson Silva.

Dan Henderson Continues to Hold Out For Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva seems genuinely uninterested in fighting Henderson or Marquardt and there is a lot of talk that the “elbow surgery” talk was just a way to delay either fight from happening. The UFC isn’t likely to let Dan get away and beef up Strikeforce’s roster and as such they’ll probably just give him a little something on the new contract to ease the pain of not getting the Silva fight right away. If the Hendo/Nate fight goes off then Anderson would basically be stuck either having to fight the winner or vacate his title.

Dan Henderson Is a Free Agent and the UFC Middleweight Division Is a Mess

Pretty surprising news breaking. Josh Gross was “tweeting” earlier that the rumored Dan Henderson/Antonio Rogerio Nogueria fight wouldn’t be happening and said that Dan’s next fight may not even be in the UFC. All the tweets and some reaction by Kid Nate can be found here at BloodyElbow.com. It should be noted that it seems Dan wants to stay in the UFC and the promotion certainly isn’t going to want him to end up in Strikeforce or anything.

Everything in the UFC’s middleweight division is massively confusing right now. Champion Anderson Silva was supposed to be fighting either Dan Henderson or Nate Marquardt, both of whom he already beat once. Henderson brutally KO’ed Michael Bisping to put himself back in line only to be one upped by Marquadt knocking out Demian Maia just a few seconds into the first round. However, Silva says that he isn’t interested in rematching either guy and seems focused on moving up to 205 pounds, where he refuses to fight champion and teammate Lyoto Machida. In addition, news comes out that Silva is going to have surgery on his elbow only to have his own manager come out and say that this was never the case which leads to rumors start that Anderson is on hold for some super secret unannounced card to counter the next Strikeforce show.
