Did you waste your weekend watching a bunch of boring football games?
Carnage Weekend Rolls On In College Hoops
↵Next weekend, you might want to pay a bit more attention to college basketball if the NFL Divisional Playoffs get a bit boring. Because, let me tell you, you missed a lot of upheaval over the past couple of days.
↵Five teams in this week’s AP poll -- No. 8 West Virginia, No. 11 Kansas State, 14th-ranked Mississippi, No. 15 New Mexico and No. 22 Texas Tech -- fell to unranked opponents. The Rebels were the only team in that group to fall at home.
↵Four others fell to other ranked opponents. On Saturday, fourth-ranked Purdue fell to No. 17 Wisconsin; 20th-ranked Georgia Tech topped No. 5 Duke; and No. 13 UConn collapsed at 12th-ranked Georgetown. But the biggest shock came late Sunday afternoon, when top-ranked Kansas fell at 16th-ranked Tennessee, a team without four key players -- three suspended for their arrest on drug and gun charges on New Year’s Day and Tyler Smith, who was booted from the team for the same incident.
↵And it’s not over yet. No. 18 Florida State is currently down at Maryland and 24th-ranked Washington is losing to Arizona. Ninth-ranked North Carolina closes the weekend out for the top 25 against a Virginia Tech team who may or may not have Malcolm Delaney. But keep in mind that Tar Heels already lost to the College of Charleston Monday.
↵Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to work on shuffling tomorrow’s bracket projection.
