The long-awaited NFL Draft decisions by Georgia Tech’s Derrick Morgan, Jonathan Dwyer and Morgan Burnett will be made today.
Georgia Tech stars set to make intentions known today
The trio will will hold a news conference, but a time was not specified.
Most expect that Morgan is the most likely of the three to enter. The Yellow Jackets are going to put in a 3-4 defense. A change in scheme could have a negative impact on the defensive end’s draft stock. Playing as a down lineman, Morgan had 12.5 sacks this season. Morgan is a natural end, so it’s unlikely he could play as well as an outside linebacker.
Dwyer has run for 1,395 yards in consecutive seasons with 26 rushing touchdowns over that time. Dwyer has received first round projections because of his combination of size and speed.
Of the three, Burnett might be the most likely to return to school. Although he’s athletic and a good hitter, Burnett had an up and down season. While he finished second on the team in tackles with 85 and first in interceptions with four, he was invisible in some games.
A conventional defense might also help Burnett, who has played rover. The 3-4 would allow Burnett to settle in at one of the safety positions and better define his role.
Update: It’s official. All three players have entered the draft.
