For Oakland Raiders undead overlord Al Davis, the draft season has officially begun – Florida junior defensive end is officially in the NFL Draft.
Al Davis’ ears perk up; Carlos Dunlap officially in the draft
The Al Davis jokes are appropriate. Dunlap is the type of athletic underachiever that Davis covets, be it Darrius Heyward-Bey, Michael Huff or JaMarcus Russell.
Dunlap fits the Davis bill because he’s a 6-foot-6, 290-pound pass rusher. He reportedly has a 40-yard dash time of 4.63 seconds. Dunlap had nine sacks this season, and has 19.5 for his career.
“This took a lot of thought and prayer between me and my family, and we decided that this was the best direction for me to take,” Dunlap said during a news conference today. “I’ve loved having the chance to play at Florida for Coach [Urban] Meyer, and playing for Coach Charlie Strong. I wouldn’t be the person or the player I am today without them and the other coaches who have helped me along the way.”
Dunlap was suspended for the SEC championship game after being charged with a DUI.
Junior center Maurkice Pouncey also announced that was entering the draft. His brother, Mike, opted to return to school to move over to center. (That was something I suggested recently. So, toot toot, you know?)
