Saturday night during the Calgary Flames/Vancouver Canucks, a Canucks fan was consistently annoying Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff with a laser. GM Place security could not find the fan and the lasering continued for the whole game. Flames coach Brent Sutter had this to say about the situation:
Barry Trotz Won’t Stand For Another Laser Pointing Canucks Fan
↵“It’s ridiculous,” Sutter said. “It was going on all night. We could see it from the bench, shining on his mask. It was something that was addressed with security and the refs. The refs, obviously, couldn’t do much about it.”↵Fast forward to Monday night as the Nashville Predators travel to Vancouver to face the Canucks. Barry Trotz had this to say about what would happen if the lasering continued tonight:
↵“If they do it [again], fans will have to wait because I’ll pull my team off [the ice],” Predators head coach Barry Trotz said when asked if he was concerned about a repeat or copycat incident. “Everybody thinks they’ll get their 15 minutes of fame. It’s brutal.”↵As a note, all arenas have a strict policy against fans using laser pointers to distract anyone on the field and they are subject to explusion from the arena and a possible arrest. Here’s to hoping that the Canucks fan doesn’t come back.
