Aaron Simpson Takes Split Decision Over Tom Lawlor

In the second bout of the main card Aaron Simpson managed to overcome a very bad first round where Tom Lawlor hurt him repeatedly standing. The entire first round seemed to consist of Lawlor launching power shots at Simpson while Aaron held his hands up.In the second round Lawlor was starting to look tired while Simpson started to take over the fight standing, landing more shots while Lawlor started to see the fight slip away from him.

In the third Simpson clearly won the round with a pressing attack early and then a takedown which led to Aaron moving to mount and taking Lawlor’s back for the second half of the round. It was a clear Simpson round leaving the judges with a very tough call to make.

The official scorecards were 29-28 Lawlor, and two 29-28 Simpson to give Aaron Simpson the split decision win. SB Nation scored the bout a 28-28 draw (10-8 Lawlor, 10-9 Simpson and 10-9 Simpson).
