The African Cup of Nations Is Probably Not Going According to Angola’s Plan
↵↵Angola is hosting the African Cup of Nations this year. It is not doing a particularly good job of it. First, Togo’s national team was attacked by gunmen. A coach and a media spokesman were killed, the team’s goaltender was hospitalized, and ultimately the team was forced to withdraw. ↵
↵↵Then, Angola’s team laid the egg that you can see in part in the above video. They let up four goals after the 74th minute in a 4-4 draw with Mali.↵
↵↵Obviously, the events have essentially no connection other than the tournament, and the grief caused by the tragic attack on Togo’s team dwarfs the pain that comes from a loss in a tournament. But things are not looking so great for Angola in what should have been a showcase of their nation’s ability to host the Cup of Nations.↵
