Ben Saunders v. Martin Kampmann In The Works For UFC 111
- MMA Weekly breaks news of a very meaningful welterweight bout between Ben Saunders and Martin Kampmann.
Saunders rebounded from a TKO at the hands of Mike Swick to brutalize Marcus Davis at UFC 106, knocking “The Irish Hand Grenade” out in the first round. A win over Kampmann turns Saunders into a legitimate contender at 170 pounds.
Kampmann shares a similar current career path having lost via TKO to Paul Daley at UFC 103 and rebounded with a submission victory over Jacob Volkmann on January 2 at UFC 108. Kampmann’s kickboxing skills have always been overrated while his submission talents have suffered from being overlooked by many fans. In order to take this fight he is going to have to find a way to get the longer Saunders to the ground without absorbing his usual amount of punishment.
The rumored UFC 111 card currently looks like this:
- Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy
- Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir
- Thiago Alves vs. Jon Fitch
- Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Brown
- Jim Miller vs. Mark Bocek
- Martin Kampmann vs. Ben Saunders
- Rodney Wallace vs. Jared Hamman
- Kurt Pellegrino vs. TBA
