Celtics Destroy Nets, 111-87
East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - Paul Pierce scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds, and the Boston Celtics raced out to an enormous lead early and cruised past the lowly Nets, 111-87, at IZOD Center.
Rajon Rondo added 11 points and 14 assists for the Celtics, who have beaten the Nets 11 straight times, including eight straight in New Jersey. Ray Allen added 15 points, Glen Davis 13 and Kendrick Perkins 12 in the lopsided win.
Brook Lopez had 18 points and 10 rebounds to pace New Jersey, which dropped its sixth straight to fall to 3-35 on the season. Yi Jianlian contributed 19 points, while Devin Harris had 15 in defeat.
Boston wasted no time blowing the game wide open. The Celtics jumped out to a 13-7 lead on a Perkins jumper, and an 18-4 burst later provided the visitors a commanding 31-13 lead after a Rondo free throw with 3 1/2 minutes left.
New Jersey made it a 16-point game, 38-22, heading to the second, but Boston continued to pour it on.
The Celtics scored the first eight points of the second quarter to make it a 24-point game, and the lead reached 30, 57-27, on a Tony Allen layup with five minutes left in the half.
Boston had a 71-35 lead at halftime and still held a sizeable 90-64 advantage after the third quarter. New Jersey didn’t threaten in the fourth.
The 1972-73 76ers, who hold the record for least amount of wins in a season with nine, were also 3-35 after 38 games. They didn't notch their fourth win until their 42nd game...Boston played without Kevin Garnett (knee) and Rasheed Wallace (foot)...The Celtics are 16-5 on the road and lead the season series with New Jersey, 2-0...The last Nets win over Boston came on February 9, 2007.
