Top-Ranked Texas Survives Trip To Iowa State
Ames, IA (Sports Network) - Damion James finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds in a record-setting performance, as top-ranked Texas held off Iowa State, 90-83, at Hilton Coliseum.
James became the Big 12’s all-time leading rebounder with 1,147, surpassing Nick Collison, who totaled 1,143 for Kansas from 2000-03.
Avery Bradley had 24 points to pace Texas (16-0, 2-0 Big 12), which is off to its best start since 1932-33, when it won its first 20 games. Jordan Hamilton and J'Covan Brown each scored 11 in the Longhorns' victory.
Marquis Gilstrap had 20 points and 13 boards for Iowa State (11-5, 0-1), which had won five of six. Craig Brackins and Lucca Staiger scored 18 and 17, respectively, while LaRon Dendy added 14 points in the loss.
