Thirty-Six Hours With The Atlanta Hawks

Every journalist’s/blogger’s dream is to really go behind the scenes with a sports team. I’m not talking about your typical locker-room access. I’m talking about going to coaches’ meetings, flying on the team plane, listening to the pre-game speeches and sharing in the glory of a team’s victory.

↵SLAM’s Lang Whitaker is one writer that got that chance. Back in December, the Hawks allowed him to be embedded with the team as they played a key road back-to-back game against the powerful Dallas Mavericks. Whitaker finally wrote up his report of what happened yesterday, and it’s a really, really interesting read.

↵My favorite part? After the win, coach Mike Woodson made rookie Jeff Teague sing Happy Birthday to Josh Smith. Teague responded by dancing around shirtless while singing the Stevie Wonder version of the song, cracking up the entire locker room. Oh, to be young and full of energy all the time.
