American Top Team’s Wilson Gouveia (12-7) has inked a big return to mixed martial arts -- Monday he signed a multi-fight deal with Maximum Fighting Championship and will fight Canadian star “Big Deal” Ryan Jimmo (12-1) at MFC 25: Vindication at the Winspear Centre/Enmax Hall in Edmonton, Alberta April 9.
Ryan Jimmo v. Wilson Gouveia At MFC 25: Vindication
Gouveia is still a very legitimate fighter with solid standing and ground skills and figures to be the hardest test of Jimmo’s career. Moving back to light heavyweight is a solid move for Wilson as his recent attempts to fight at 185 simply proved that it isn’t always a good idea to go down a weight class.
Jimmo has won 12 fights in a row since dropping his professional debut. 4 of his last 5 wins have been by decision though and you really like to see a guy finish at a high rate on the smaller fight cards. Another potential warning sign for the Canadian is the fact that he was only able to eek out a split decision over the ever-so-shot Marvin Eastman last October.
Still, an impressive stoppage win against Gouveia coupled with the fact that he’d be on a 13 fight winning streak should lead to a call from Strikeforce or the UFC.
