As we all know, the NCAA’s legislative council met this week to revise the rules regarding basketball recruiting, universally known as the sleeziest business in all of sports. Most of the new rules are simply attempts by the NCAA to stay up to date on technology like banning fan created Facebook pages to try and lure recruits, and regulations on what sort of emails a school can send to recruits. You know practical stuff that required clarification.
In Case You Thought Otherwise, You Are Not Allowed To Recruit At Funerals.
↵One new rule however, sticks out, as BoilerStation.com reports:
↵↵A coach may attend a recruit’s family member’s funeral, but only if no recruiting occurs at the funeral.
↵↵This is a slippery slope here, folks. First they make it illegal to recruit at funerals, then baptisms, then Bar Mitzvahs. Before you know it graduate assistants wont even be able to chaperon a recruit’s high school prom, and head coaches no longer can serve as legal guardian during a recruit’s parent’s divorce proceedings. Where does it end? The NCAA is suffocating the free market of recruiting with its rules and regulations.
