Well, that was quick. With Sean Sherk out of the rumored bout with Clay Guida at UFC on Versus it looks like the promotion has already tapped Shannon Gugerty as a replacement. From MMA Junkie:
Shannon Gugerty Replaces Sean Sherk Against Clay Guida
The March 21 bout was recently described as “abandoned” by FiveOuncesOfPain.com, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has since confirmed that Sherk was removed from the potential matchup for undisclosed reasons.
However, MMAjunkie.com confirmed Friday that Shannon Gugerty (12-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has agreed to step in for “The Muscle Shark” and face Guida.
Verbal agreements are in place for both fighters, though bout agreements have yet to be distributed.
Gugerty/Guida is hardly on the same level as Guida/Sherk but it should provide a decent chance for the always hard working Clay to bounce back strong from his lopsided loss to Kenny Florian and his fight of the year contender with Diego Sanchez.
Shannon is coming off a submission loss to Terry Etim at UFC 105.
