Sports And Feminism: Not Necessarily At Loggerheads

The world of professional sports, with few exceptions, is a male-dominated institution. Even the WNBA -- arguably America’s most popular female sports league -- is forced into the periphery and mocked without relent. It doesn’t seem like very friendly territory for a feminist. For example, take a quick scroll down this page. See any women?

↵Over at Bitch Magazine, though, Anna Clark argues that feminism and sports are compatible. Through a series of ten articles, each one highlighting a redeeming element of sports, she explains why she loves male- and female-oriented sports alike. She notes that sports honor their history, build communities, and are inherently optimistic. No matter who you are, this is valuable reading.
