After the past two weeks, Georgia Tech may want to petition the ACC office to tweak their basketball schedule a bit.
For Georgia Tech Hoops, Every Day Should Be Saturday
Here’s a look at the Yellow Jackets’ results since topping Charlotte on a Saturday night to start 2010.
- Tuesday, January 5th: lost at Georgia, where they haven't won since 1976.
- Saturday, January 9th at 2 p.m. Eastern: beat then fifth-ranked Duke, 71-67, leading to a court storming.
- Wednesday, January 13th: lost at Virginia, 82-75.
- Saturday, January 16th at 2 p.m. Eastern: held off No. 12 North Carolina, 73-71.
Notice a little something about the tip day and time for the two wins?
Sure, today’s victory wasn’t easy. The Yellow Jackets led by 20 with 8:08 left in the first half, and the Tar Heels slowly but surely ate into the lead, turning the game into a seesaw battle. UNC’s Will Graves attempted a three at the buzzer that would have given the Tar Heels the win. But he missed, and Georgia Tech earned their first win in Chapel Hill since 1996.
The Yellow Jackets should win their next Saturday tip, against Division II Kentucky State on January 30th, but the school may want to switch the tip time to the magical 2 p.m. hour to be safe.
Until then, it’s midweek and Sunday games for Georgia Tech, who next hosts 24th-ranked Clemson on Tuesday night.
