Weekend Wake Up: Crawford Sinks Suns, Adidas Drops Arenas, Gerhart Going Pro
Jamal’s Eclipse. Broken play? No problem. The Hawks will take their 102-101 win over the Suns on Jamal Crawford’s clutch three: It gave them sole possession of the Southeast Division lead after Orlando lost to Portland. In second place for finish of the night: Derrick Rose’s jumper to beat the Wizards in double overtime.
Agent Zero Shoe Deals. It gets worse and worse for Gilbert Arenas. He plead guilty to a felony gun charge Friday afternoon, and Adidas severed its ties with him late Friday night. The self-immolation of a star too bright for his firmament seems nearly complete at this point. We should only hope that it isn’t permanent.
Stanford Star to Sunday. Stanford bruiser Toby Gerhart became the last big underclassman name to enter the 2010 NFL Draft on Friday. He could have stayed for a fifth year (he played just one game in 2007) and tried to lead Stanford to its second straight bowl appearance. But with 671 carries as a collegian already under his belt, it is probably wise for him to start trying to earn money for every yard earned with his grinding style.
