Top-Ranked Texas Needs OT To Beat Archrival A&M, 72-67
Austin, TX (Sports Network) - Damion James scored a season-best 28 points and added a crucial block of a potential game-tying shot inside 10 seconds remaining in overtime, and top-ranked Texas escaped with a 72-67 victory over conference rival Texas A&M.
James had 25 of his points in the second half and overtime and also pulled down 12 rebounds, as Texas (17-0, 3-0 Big 12) remained one of the two remaining unbeaten teams in the country along with Kentucky. Gary Johnson added season-highs with 18 points and 10 boards off the bench, while J'Covan Brown had 12 points and a career-best 10 rebounds in the win.
The Longhorns failed to hold the lead at any point in regulation and trailed by nine at halftime.
Donald Sloan had 21 points to pace the Aggies (12-5, 1-2), who squandered a chance to beat a top-ranked team for the first time in school history. Bryan Davis added 17 points before fouling out in overtime, and Nathan Walkup had 13 points in the tough defeat.
